Birthing Simulator Teaching Staff at Finley Hospital

Finley Hospital in Dubuque now has a new birthing simulator to help educate staff members.

Families of long time Finley nurses, Beth Hoefer and Mary Riegler, donated the Noelle Birthing Simulator. It gives a real-life simulation of a woman giving birth, complete with fetal heart sounds and a removable abdominal cover.

Birthing Unit Manager Jenni Scott says it also prepares nurses for any complications that might come up during a delivery.

“We can simulate decreased heart rate, which happens all the time,” said Scott. “And the nurses have to go through the right steps to correct it.”
